The Ultimate Guide to Exploring the Coffs Coast from Moonee Beach

If you’re looking for the perfect base to explore the Coffs Coast, it’s hard to go past Moonee Beach. We recently spent a week staying at Reflections Moonee Beach and discovered just how much this beautiful stretch of the NSW North Coast has to offer.

From pristine beaches and coastal lookouts to family attractions, rainforest adventures and iconic landmarks, the Coffs Coast truly has something for everyone.

Staying at Reflections Moonee Beach

Located just north of Coffs Harbour, Reflections Moonee Beach offers a unique waterfront camping experience.

At high tide, the creek comes right up to the shoreline, creating a peaceful waterfront setting perfect for relaxing by camp. At low tide, the water retreats to reveal shallow sand flats and channels that can be explored on foot all the way to the surf beach beyond.

The park offers:

  • Powered caravan and camping sites
  • Creekfront camping
  • Cabins and tiny houses
  • A huge camp kitchen
  • Fire pits and communal fire areas
  • Dog-friendly accommodation options
  • Excellent facilities for families and groups

For those who love fishing, kayaking, paddleboarding or swimming, it’s difficult to imagine a better location

Visit Emerald Beach

Only a short drive north of Moonee Beach, Emerald Beach is one of the hidden gems of the Coffs Coast.

The headland walk offers spectacular ocean views and, if you’re lucky, you may even spot kangaroos grazing on the grassy slopes overlooking the water.

With beautiful beaches, excellent surf conditions and a relaxed coastal atmosphere, it’s easy to see why visitors fall in love with this small seaside village.

Explore Woolgoolga

Known locally as “Woopi”, Woolgoolga combines laid-back beach vibes with a rich cultural history.

Spend time exploring the town centre, browsing local shops and enjoying one of the many cafes before heading up to the headland for panoramic coastal views.

The beaches here are some of the best on the North Coast and are perfect for swimming, surfing and beach walks.

Walk Along the Coffs Harbour Jetty

The iconic Coffs Harbour Jetty is a must-visit while exploring the region.

Whether you’re fishing, watching the fishing boats return to harbour or simply enjoying a sunset stroll, the jetty precinct offers some of the best waterfront views in town.

Nearby you’ll find restaurants, cafes and plenty of open space for families to enjoy.

Spend a Day at The Big Banana Fun Park

No trip to Coffs Harbour is complete without visiting the Big Banana.

What started as a simple roadside attraction celebrating the region’s banana-growing history has grown into one of Australia’s best family attractions.

Activities include:

  • Toboggan rides
  • Ice skating
  • Water park and slides
  • Laser tag
  • Mini golf
  • Giant slides
  • Escape rooms
  • Fun Zone activities
  • Plantation experiences

You could easily spend an entire day here and still not see everything.

Discover The Clog Barn

One of Coffs Harbour’s most unique attractions, The Clog Barn celebrates Dutch heritage and culture.

Visitors can enjoy traditional Dutch treats, browse the gift shop and explore the incredibly detailed miniature Dutch village complete with moving displays and tiny working scenes.

It’s a surprisingly fascinating stop for visitors of all ages.

Visit Dolphin Marine Conservation Park

Known to many locals and long-time visitors as the former Porpoise Pool, this attraction continues to be one of the most popular family experiences in Coffs Harbour.

The park focuses on marine education, rescue and conservation while providing visitors with opportunities to learn about dolphins, seals and other marine life.

See the Famous Banana Plantations

The Coffs Coast is Australia’s banana capital and you’ll quickly understand why as you drive through the region.

Hillsides covered in lush banana plantations are a common sight and provide a unique glimpse into the area’s agricultural history.

They also make for some fantastic photo opportunities.

Enjoy the Views from Sealy Lookout and Forest Sky Pier

For arguably the best views on the entire Coffs Coast, head up to Sealy Lookout and the Forest Sky Pier.

Perched high above the city, the viewing platform offers breathtaking panoramic views across Coffs Harbour, the coastline and the surrounding hinterland.

This is one stop you absolutely shouldn’t miss.

Get Adventurous at Treetops Adventure

If you’re looking for a little excitement, Treetops Adventure delivers.

With high ropes courses, suspended bridges and flying foxes weaving through the forest canopy, it’s a fantastic experience for older children, teenagers and adventurous adults.

The views through the rainforest are incredible.
